The project is a new addition to an existing early 1900's facility. The existing facility did not adequately meet the needs of the congregation today from the width of the hallways, welcoming fellowship areas, classroom sizes and the location of the programmatic spaces in the building. The goal was to provide a clear ordered system in a historic building with a very tight site in an existing downtown area. The solution due to the tight building site was to demolish a portion of the existing facility that did not function well and could not be renovated without a major cost. A new entry, offices, and classroom wing was added along with a multi-stop/multi sided elevator that was the key to connecting a number of existing floors with the new. A new gallery fellowship area was used to organize all of the new building functions as well as the existing functions and create a common point of gathering from the multiple entry points on the site. Historic brick and stone details were used to match the existing facility while at the same time the building addition is new and current.
