Project: Knuth East | AODK :: Architecture Office :: David Krebs

The project was a expansion and new updated image for a women's high fashion clothing store. The goal was to maintain a boutique feel, while creating a shopping experience that is also an event. The renovation included an existing 2,300 s.f. tenant space and combined with the adjacent space to create a new 4,900 s.f. boutique. The existing masonry wall between the spaces was removed and replaced with structural steel pipe columns and steel beams. The solution was to organize the new space around the sales/display counter and soffit that cuts diagonally through the boutique. The sales work area is linear though the entire space to provide them visual and physical control of all spaces while allowing them to constantly interact with customers. The counter has multiple program uses including sales registers, accessories, storage, display, and coffee bar. Flexibility is created by the custom wall and floor display systems, which are interchangeable with moveable carts and adjustable wall displays. The coffee bar attracts people to the boutique, even if shopping is not the primary goal.
